Every car wash in the Naperville area, reviewed by a guy who used to run one.
From 1997 to 2006 I worked at — and eventually managed — Royal Oaks Car Wash in Shoreview, Minnesota. Nine years of tunnel chemistry, brush maintenance, winter salt seasons, and learning exactly what separates a wash that babies your paint from one that just gets it wet.
Since then I've spent 20 years in industrial laundry automation and controls — a different kind of wash, same obsession with machines that clean things properly. But I never lost my soft spot for car washes.
I've now run my own cars through every wash in the Naperville area, plus a few over in Bolingbrook. These are my honest, unsponsored takes: what each place does well, what they charge, and whether the membership is worth it.

Naperville, Bolingbrook, Woodridge, Lisle and Plainfield, Illinois — roughly everything within a 15-minute drive of south Naperville. All 11 washes currently operating in that radius are reviewed.
No. Reviews are independent and unsponsored. Ad space on the site is sold separately and never affects a score or a ranking.
DRAFT (my take, edit me): A well-maintained soft-touch tunnel with modern closed-cell foam is gentler than most people think — the damage stories usually come from worn or dirty wrap material, not the concept. Touchless is the safe default if you don't know how a tunnel is maintained, but it trades away scrub power and leans harder on chemistry. As a former operator, I judge each tunnel by its brush condition — it's scored under Paint Safety on every review.
DRAFT (my take, edit me): Unlimited plans in the area run roughly $17–$70 per month. The break-even is usually two to three washes a month, which Chicago winters make easy to hit — road salt alone justifies weekly rinses from December through March. Each of my reviews spells out the exact break-even math under Value & Membership Math.
DRAFT (my take, edit me): During active salt season, every one to two weeks, with an undercarriage rinse — salt does its worst damage where you can't see it. In summer, every two to four weeks is plenty unless you're dealing with bugs or tree sap.
